New Administrator
We are delighted to welcome Patsy Smith, our part-time Administrator.
She has been a Junior School Governor for four years and a Trustee of her local school PTA for three years. Prior to this, Patsy worked in Financial Services for over 20 years, focusing for the last ten years on Resource and Business Management. She is excited to join the Number Champions team and be part of such a worthwhile charity.
New role for Julie Cooke
Julie is now stepping into a new role as a Schools Relationship Manager, where she will manage just under half of our partner schools and their volunteers. Lorraine Gerrard, our Head of Operations, will continue to look after the remaining schools. This arrangement will allow us to provide more dedicated support to each of our volunteers.

Awards shortlist!
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the UK-wide Charity Governance Awards in the “Improving Impact (charities with 0-3 paid staff)” category. The winner will receive £5,000 with the other shortlisted charities receiving £1,000 each.
Number Champions joins other nominated charities engaged in a diverse range of activities including action for climate change, tackling homelessness, support for carers, and dance training for people with learning disabilities.
The winners will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony in central London on 30 May 2024.

Two new trustees
Welcome to our new our Treasurer.
Tom Hyde is a Director at Royal Bank of Canada responsible for managing credit and rates portfolios, and has nearly twenty years of financial services experience. Tom holds BA and MSc degrees in PPE and European Government respectively, and he is passionate about the importance of education. Having seen his own young daughter struggling with maths, Tom appreciates how critical it is for children to build confidence with numbers and is very excited to work with Number Champions.
Welcome to Pete Weal.
Peter has consistently championed the importance of maths in curriculum development. He brings a wealth of leadership experience from roles as Head Teacher and Deputy Head in primary education and as Assistant Headteacher in secondary education. He has expertise in implementing effective organisational development, and with a Master’s degree in Education, his commitment to advancing maths education is grounded with a strategic and informed perspective.

Designated Safeguarding Lead
Welcome to our new Designated Safeguarding Lead, David-Jack Hanson (DJ).
DJ is a qualified youth worker who has spent the last decade working with young people in a range of formal and informal settings. He is currently a Designated Safeguarding Officer at a national youth work charity running residentials, overseas trips and after-school clubs across Great Britain. At university, he was an active member of Nightline, helping to support student mental health.
A big Thank You to Graham Beeden who helped us create our initial safeguarding infrastructure. He has now stepped down after 5 years as our Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Annual Report
We have just published our Annual Report for the Year 2022-23 which incorporates our Impact Statement.
It is very encouraging to learn from teachers that 86% of children who participated in our programme last year showed a measurable increase in confidence with maths, 79% were more engaged in classroom lessons, and 83% showed a measurable catch-up in attainment with the rest of the class

New Operations Coordinator
We are delighted to welcome Julie Cooke, our part-time Operations Coordinator, who has just joined our professional team. Julie has worked in the charity and non-profit sector for over twenty years in a range of roles, most recently managing a literacy based mentoring programme within the New York City elementary school system. She will be supporting Lorraine Gerrard, our Head of Operations.
